The Story Behind the Event

Live. Work. Learn. Play. The Herman Miller Aeron chair enables you to do it all from the home, office, school, and hockey rink! When debuted in 1994 it was a chair unlike any the world had ever seen. It didn’t just change how people sat, but its health-positive effects were pivotal in the movement toward wellness in the workplace. The Aeron quickly became a recognizable icon and was fondly referred to as “the Official Chair of Office Hockey,” starting the cult game we now know and love.
American Office, an exclusive Herman Miller dealer, has been headquartered in Baltimore since 1932. They have also been involved with Business Volunteers Maryland and their PENCIL Program for the last 6 years. When the need for Baltimore City Public School funding grew apparent, we were all inspired to act. So this October we will be celebrating “Back to School!” with a fun day of friendly competition, community spirit, and generosity.
Each of the 16 teams will be sponsored by a Baltimore business, playing on behalf of their chosen PENCIL school partner. Teams will compete for the ultimate victory: The Aeron Cup (which includes an Aeron Chair from the event for each player on the winning team) and a $10,000 furniture package* donated by American Office to the winning PENCIL school. No matter who wins the Aeron Cup, everyone in Baltimore wins. Businesses and schools connect, companies foster a culture of team-building, and school spirits soar. But the best part is that all proceeds raised from this event will be used to advance the PENCIL Program. We are thankful for the time and donations by our business sponsors, in-kind sponsors, volunteers, and spectators!
